Week 9

This week I focused more on practicing. To start off the week I practiced the songs that I have down but not completely polished off. This consisted of me playing Paranoid a few times with the band and then more at home, along with Handle with care, let us get it on, and She bangs the drum. I played through these songs a few times each by myself and with the band.

Once I had done these songs I moved onto some new ones. "Cherry bomb" by Joan Jett and "She's Electric" by Oasis.

We started off with Cherry Bomb which didn't go very well due to the coordination of the band and the fact the singer didn't like the way she sounded on the song; so we decided to scrap the song before we got to close to the gig and had to follow through with it considering we didn't like the song. The drum pattern was also too simple, and it became really easy to lose track of where I was in the song. After that I moved onto, She's electric. The song has a quite simple, but it was tricky dynamically. I struggle figuring out what I need to do with the dynamics of the song, I also need to work on the tempo because of it being a simple song it is difficult to stay on time and sometimes I sway out of time and it. After that rehearsal I went into a practice room and then practiced playing the drums quieter and lighter to help out with the dynamics.

To help myself with this I will talk to the band and ask them what they would do and where they would do it so that we can cohesively get better at the dynamics of the song. For the tempo, I will play with a click track in rehearsals and at home to help me build up muscle memory for the song. For She's Electric after the first run through I pointed out that the guitar tones did not fit the song and recommended changing them to a cleaner "Twangier" tone to give the song the Brit Pop it is meant to be.
