Week 8
This week I worked on my proposal document. this document covers everything that will or has been done for the prep and the live event itself, along with everything else that was taken into consideration.
To begin with I started off with the audience and with this I had a look at the type of songs of which we are playing at the gig and figured out who would like it the most and then target the marketing towards them. We discovered that the songs we are doing will cater to an older generation from late teens to grandparents.
After I did this, I then moved onto the artistic vision. I discussed the gig with my classmate's ad we decided that the gig will be called "Through the Decades". We also decided on the overall mood of the event, we decided to have the first song metaphorically "punch you in the face" with its energy and feel of the song then as the gig progresses we will lower the energy then we will start to ramp it up for the last song to be the most energetic song of the setlist. We also thought about how we could people attention on the stage to make sure that they do not get bored, and we decided to do that with an array of different lights that will help enhance the performance and keep people from getting bored.
After I finished with the artistic vision I moved onto the venue. We discovered that the venue could hold around 90 to 100 people. it also has disabled access and accessible facilities. it has multiple fire exits.
After I got all of that done, I rehearsed some of the songs that I think needed work on for the gig. I started by practicing "Paranoid" and "Twist and Shout". After recording myself playing Paranoid I listened to the actual song and I realised that I am playing slower than the actual song and I need to improve on my speed so that I can keep up with the song. The way that I will improve on this will be playing to a click track that gradually get faster so that I can build up my stamina. For Twist and Shout I need to work on the ending and make sure that I get the timing down for the start of the song. I will do this by talking to the people in the band and asking them what they think I should do.
After this I started in the song "Handle with care" by the Traveling Willbury's. this drumbeat was simple, so it did not take me every long to learn it I now just need to work on my timing and staying at the correct tempo. After that I had a go at the song "One way or another" by Blondie and this song was very difficult because it is not very fast while at the same time fast enough to cause me to get fatigued. I will work on that by playing faster songs and as I practice, I will increase the amount of time I will have been playing to help me build stamina.
Once I had a few play throughs of these songs I moved onto the song "She Bangs the Drum" by The Stone Roses. This song was really difficult first looking at it, it comprised of a lot of 16th notes and then a change to 8th notes for the chorus. I am also very dynamically challenging due to the number of verses and choruses there is. I need to improve on my 16th notes so that I can help myself build up the stamina needed to play the song in its entirety. I will do this by playing the song and others with a lot of 16th notes, I will also try out different drum sticks to see if I prefer using heavier of lighter sticks.
Once that was all done, I had another go at drumming "Stacy's Mom" and decided to drop the song due to it not being at a standard that I would like it to be at and that it would take me too long for it to get better. This is due to the drum pattern being strange and difficult to get down I will be able to get it down if I was more experienced at drumming but with this being one of the first songs with this kind of drum pattern I won't be able to get it down in time for the gig.
