Week 12

December 09, 2024 This week I was put on a song last minute so that song was my main focus for the week due to the gig being next week. This was good and bad for me, this is due to added pressure that I went through because I had such little time to get the song read y but, it also prepares me for the real world where I will most likely hav e a shorter time frame to learn a song for something.   The song was "Half the World Away" by Oasis. The song is very dynamically challenging with parts that feel like they would need to get louder actually get softer and parts where it feels it should get softer gets louder instead. The drum pattern is also very simple and is a little bit difficult to play in time and keep in time along with trying too dynamic. The first time I played this song was with the band I am going to be on stage with. This run through was not the best but after that we went into a practice room and played the song over and over working things out and e...

Week 11

December 02, 2024   This week I practiced "Folsom Prison Blues" and "You really got me".    I started off by practicing "Folsom Prison Blues". I forgot the drumming pattern so for the first few run throughs it did not sound very good then I looked up the drum pattern and realised that I was the issue and after that I played the correctly. After that hiccup, the song went really well , and I personally believe after a few minor improvements it will be ready to be performed. One of the improvements that we need to do is guitar tones so I sat down with the amps and put in tones that I thought worked and then asked the guitarists to use them and add or take away whatever they want to make as good as possible and once we did this the song sounded good. That also means we will be able to practice for longer so that we do not have to take as long getting ready to practice.   Once I finished practicing "Folsom Prison Blues" I moved onto "You Rea...

Week 10

November 25, 2024   This week I practiced the song I felt like needed the most work done to them.    I started off with the song "She Bangs the Drum". I started off by playing a round of 16th notes and then moving into a regular r hythm to get myself used to the change of switching between the 2 different techniques of drumming. I did this by myself in one of the practice rooms.    After I finished doing this I began to practice with the band, we got a few run throughs, and we tweaked a few things but overall, the song is going well.   After this I worked on the song "She's Electric". This song has a steady beat, and it stays at the same tempo throughout the entire song, and it is difficult for me to consistently stay at that tempo without swaying. The way I practiced this is by playing to a metronome; I made sure to play the song to the tempo of the metronome and if I got it wrong, I would restart and keep playing until I got at least 5 run throughs o...
